thanks to all who participate -- overall i, like Todd, think the group generally moderates itself pretty well....

if a team of meoderators is established, i'd be willing to help out...
(i'm in the Mountain time zone, if it matters from a coverage/timing perspective)

I think Todd's proposals will help things to run more smoothly here in the future and will help to avoid the types of problems we've encountered in the past. Hopefully those who've left and/or were planning on leaving over disputes here will also like these propositions and will re-join (or not leave) our group. Thanks Todd, for coming in like the Calvary......

I too would be willing to help moderate. The only horse I have in this race is my love of these big ugly noisemakers. Perhaps decision by committee might actually be the best thing in the long run...

I'm glad to see Todd has calmed this all done to the point that sensible dialogue can occur .

( IMHO ), Cal(s) suggestion of using a couple more Moderators ( is right on ). As he mentioned, having other mods present would help diffuse & effectively side-step the one-on-ones that can lead to these animosity issues . FWIW, to this casual observer, it all seemed to start off so harmlessly ( the initial posts from both sides ) .

Already JMN & AA ( sorry about the abbrev. guys ) have stepped forward and I do hope they are taken up on their gracious offers .

Up front: For over 20 years as a senior Engineer in my State's Electricity Commission I was responsible for establishing, implementing and monitoring policies and practices relating to safe operation and access of the High Voltage assets.
Another 10 years were spent as a Certified ISO 9000 Quality Systems Auditor/Lead Auditor.

Now my contribution:

The following need to be available to All Forum participants.

. Forum Aims

. Forum Rules and Guidelines for participation, moderation and dispute resolution.

. The results of arbitration should first be made known to the individual(s) involved and published if necessary to clear the air.

Moderation:

. To intervene in a process to reduce the necessity for mediation.

. Mediation: A negotiation to resolve differences that is conducted by a suitable independent third party.

. Credibility of and accountability for action. Be aware that the Forum is published in the public domain and accountablity exists beyond the Forum.

. Moderator qualifications: be able to demonstrate clear and rational thinking(say to 101 level) and the ability to effectively use their skill in the moderation role. Respect all individuals involved in the process.
